Lady Mavs Enjoy 3-1 Away Win at Hesston

The Northwest Kansas Tech Lady Mavs traveled to Hesston, Kansas for a clash against conference foes Hesston College. Although the scoreline showed 3-1, the Lady Mavs controlled play for most of the match finishing the game with 10 shots on target compared to Hesston?s two. ?We moved the ball well and are really starting to understand how to play football the right way? said Head Coach Jordan Rideout, ?our midfield is starting to control games and we are coming together well.?
Coming off a massive freshman campaign, Sophomore striker Adrijane Felix (3) added to her goal tally in the first half to give the Lady Mavs a well-deserved 1-0 lead. The goal came after Sophomore winger Icxel Olivares made a great run down the line beating two girls then delivering a pinpoint cross to the head of Felix, which was put away in confident fashion. Felix caused Hesston problems all game, but couldn?t convert on chances in the second half.
In the second half, Hesston equalized directly off a corner kick scored by Sophomore forward Miya Gonda. Although the game was level for fifteen minutes, the Lady Mavs remained calm and continued to play well, confident that there chances would start to pay off. With ten minutes left in the match, Sophomore forward Lulu Moreno (1) stepped up in a big way and scored the go ahead goal by slotting home an inch-perfect pass from Freshman midfielder Raewyn Murphy. Minutes later, Lulu (2) struck again after ripping a shot from the top of the box that deflected off a Hesston defender before finding the side netting. ?Lulu really stepped up for us today and showed what she is capable of,? explained Rideout, ?we are hoping that she continues this form as we get into the thick of our conference schedule.?
